Lore And Lutes

Welcome to the Lore And Lutes Website

First Time Here?
Don't know what Lore And Lutes, or LOOP, or ASFC is? Never fear introductions are here! If you're a gamer, or want to develop your own game you might be interested in Lore And Lutes. If so read the About Lore and Lutes section. If you're a developer you may be interested in one of my libraries: ASFC a cross platform game development lib, LOOP a scripting language, or maybe TextEdit the self described text viewer \ editor.

Notice:
Lore And Lutes is still in development.

News:
Feb. 26, 2004: L&L restructuring
Boy, its been a long, long, looong, while since I've updated this little site here. Just so you know, L&L is still under development, although I haven't touched it for a good long time. I've stopped developping L&L in Windows using Dev C++ and am currently developping it under Linux. Windows versions of the game, however, will still be released. A lot of L&L's foundation is being restructured, particularily ASFC. Once my planned changes are implemented I think L&L will run several times faster than it currently does. It will also be able to be compiled using gcc 3.2. I've also been developping a more thorough webpage for ASFC. You can go ahead and check it out if you want. However, be aware that like ASFC 0.2.0 the page isn't anywhere near complete.

June 25, 2003: Alpha .05 Released
Lore and Lutes version alpha .05 has been released!
The game engine and editor are more or less complete. A few aesthetic details need to be coded in, and a few new buttons mapped to templates may show up. All in all though it's done! Of course that means the real work is just starting! An actual game using the editor needs to be created and a decent level of documentation should be written up. This actual game though, which of course goes by the name Lore and Lutes, is what I'm currently busy working on. Currently L&L alpha .05 includes the very first part of the game, the first act, so L&L now actually has a game to play with! Have fun!

You can download the current binary here.

In other news the Screenshots section has been updated with images of the most recent version of L&L (Alpha .05) for your viewing pleasure.

May 04, 2003: Alpha .04 Released
Lore and Lutes version alpha .04 has finally been released! The more interesting features include:
-A series of buttons in the editor that do various functions. They make the interface a lot nicer to use
-A narating console, and LOOP commands to program it.
-An introduction in the game.
-Universal information editor.
-Game changes map when the player dies.

Lore and Lutes is rapidly approaching the point where the editor can program an actual game! Expect some intersting updates to occur in the next month or so. You can download the current binary here

Mar 07, 2003: Alpha .03 Released
Lore and Lutes version alpha .03 has been released. New features include:
- Monsters
- Fixed fade effects
- Battle mode
- Global script
- Enchanced path finding AI
- Scripted items
- Item editing

When running the L&L runner (lrun) press the z key and escape to spawn a new player. Make sure to spawn a few players before entering battle mode. You can download the windows binary here.

Dec 01, 2002: The site has a new format!
Well looking through this site it seems as if not much has changed. But much has changed indeed! I've been learning all about PHP and I finally got around to updated the site to take advantage of it! After spending hours on end scripting the heck out of this site it now has a much better design! Oh, oh, yes, I verily spent many an hour whipping out functions . And after much, much struggle I discovered this incredibly useful command! And how could I forget my fun time configuring Apache as a local server so I could test my adventures in PHP. Ah the times indeed. And as a reward for all this work I can now easily make changes to the entire site on the fly without having to meticulously edit every .HTML file.

In other news I just realized it's December and I haven't released an Alpha package of L&L since October! So expect a new one to show up in the coming weeks.

Nov 15, 2002: L&L and its Dependencies
Lore and lutes depends on the PhysicsFS, SDL, and SDL_Image libraries. You'll need to download these before you can play or compile Lore And Lutes. Links to the sites where you can aquire these libs have been put up in the nifty little side bar way over there.

Nov 12, 2002: Tutorials A Comin'
Geez its been a while since I've updated! Anyways the ASFC and Textedit documentation have had minor corrections to them, nothing big. Also I've started writting a tutorial for the ledit. Its still in its draft stages but I've posted it here for anyone who dares look at it :-).

Oct 26, 2002: Lore And Lutes Linux & Documentation
It's a bit late but I've finally got a Linux binary of Lore And Lutes up. Currently Eoin is working on trying to get a proper Linux port done so that Lore can easily be compiled. Also I've started some basic documentation about how to use ASFC and Textedit.

Oct 16, 2002: Lore And Lutes Launched Onto The Web
Well after months of development Lore And Lutes is finally on the web! So go ahead and take a look at Lore, take a look around this site, but beware its still in its alpha stages!

Current features include:
The framework for the L&L editor
Terrain Placement and editing
An object oriented scripting language, used to script units

Anyways if your new here take a look at the introduction to Lore And Lutes page to get an idea of what its all about.
